“This was an amazing!!! But be warned!! If it snows ALOT the night before your trip, just know you’ll be running behind/ pushing to help the dogs if the snow is deep. The dogs are strong but they need help going up the hills. My husband and I had a great workout! You do need to have some sort of physical abilities for this excursion. The guides were wonderful and patient. Another piece of advice is try to get the sled in the front by the guide. There’s a chance you could get stuck behind people that weren’t listening to directions and weren’t helping the dogs, hence, stopping every few…”

The self-drive husky sled tour was by far the best thing I did during the three days I was stuck in Tromsø hunting for the aurora in a snow storm. “My daughter and I did this self-drive husky dog sledding experience about 35 minutes from Tromsø, in the hills of the neighbouring island. Despite windy and snowy conditions, the activity was very well organised and great fun. We started sledding at 14:00, which meant sledding in the dark using headlamps. While this was still enjoyable, I would recommend going during the twilight hours (around 09:30–14:30) and hoping for clear weather to better appreciate the beautiful surrounding landscape. “The guides were friendly and took the time to chat about the camp and ask where you were from. The hike was beautiful as it was snowing, the boots and snow suits keep you very warm and comfortable in the cold. The huskies were all friendly and enjoyed the attention. It was a very enjoyable experience and would consider doing it again.”

“This was an amazing experience from start to finish. We saw the Northern Lights immediately, which was an absolute bonus. Then they took us in to pet ALL the dogs. The handlers are all so knowledgeable and taught you all about them. Next we had a lovely dinner (vegetarian option was so good). Finally we went out by a campfire to admire the lights and the guides gave a talk about them as well. Obviously, the northern lights aren’t a guarantee, but this would have been worth it without them.”
